BIENNALE OF JAFRE, Girona, Spain

Global event in a local context / Local event in a global context

I am co-founder and curator of the Biennale of Jafre   from I Biennal  in 2003  to VII Biennal in 2015, one weekend biennale in a small village in Catalonia.

The Jafre Biennal is an alternative, innovative visual arts project in Catalonia. The aim of the organisers is to explore new artistic trends outside urban spaces integrating the semi-rural community in a global discourse and combining them with the historical, economic and cultural life of Jafre.

For two days, national and international artists present installations, interventions and performances in the houses and streets of the village. There is a concert of electroacoustic music generally of a gestural, ephemeral character.

Since the first edition of the Biennial of Jafre in the year 2003, this event has become a platform where artists of different generations together with the people from Jafre make the Biennial a unique event in the world.

Libertad: (From Latin libertas) 1. f. Man’s capacity to act in one way or another, and not to act, being responsible for his actions. [Real Academia Española] Freedom is one of the words most frequently used in the rhetoric of European democracies. Since its origins as legal status in Roman law, freedom has been the most valued right a human being can possess yet also the most costly to obtain and preserve.
